Elie is an active and curious child who enjoys running and exploring. He lives with family members in this poor neighborhood of Damala in the capital city of Bangui. His father is deceased. The typical home is a one room clay brick house with a dirt floor. There is no plumbing, electricity or water. Although he is too young to help with chores, he often accompanies family members as they do them. He lives in an environment where malaria, malnutrition and lack of medical care are common issues.
